The Top 10 Best Gaming Earbuds with Mic

Gaming is an activity that’s enjoyed by millions, if not billions, of people all across the world. Whether you’re an Xbox fan, a PlayStation enthusiast, or you prefer to bash it out on the PC, one thing is for certain, without the sound, half the fun is taken away. I mean have you ever heard of a silent bomb, or a fire that doesn’t crackle, or a gun that has no bang?

Adding sound to your gaming experience heightens it in so many ways. It allows you to fully immerse yourself in the situation, allowing you to not only see what’s happening, but to hear, and sometimes feel it too. If you thought your heart was racing before adding sound to your gameplay, just wait until after!

Some people spend a great deal of money on buying a huge surround system to blast out all those booms and bangs while gaming. And while that’s great if you live on your own in the middle of nowhere, it’s not very practical if you live with a house full of people in a large apartment block.

So, then. What’s the solution to all these problems? Gaming earbuds. They’re small, relatively inexpensive in comparison, and won’t have your neighbors jumping out of bed in the middle of the night thinking they’re under attack!

In this article, we’re going to take you through the ins and outs of some of the best gaming earbuds around at the moment, in our opinion (we’ve put them in rank order for you to make it easier).

What to Consider When Buying Gaming Earbuds

We appreciate that there is a lot of choice out there when it comes to gaming earbuds, which can become overwhelming when making your purchase. However, as long as you keep the following few things in mind when making your purchase, you should be fine:

  • Surround sound or stereo. Surround sound works by having separate speakers allocated to each audio channel, giving the sound more direction. The problem in doing this is that sound quality is compromised due to the need for extra speakers. So, while this works really well in the cinema or in a large room, in a tiny little headset, you just don't get the same effect.

With a stereo headset, the sound quality is uncompromised as there’s no requirement to create positional audio. So while you may not hear sounds coming from all directions as with a surround sound system, you will hear much clearer audio.

  • Connection type. The type of connection type you’ll need will depend on the gaming platform you use. Most gaming earbuds use a 3.5 mm connection, which is pretty standard across the board. However, some use USB, and others, Bluetooth. So, just make sure your device is compatible or that you can get an adapter that will enable it to work.

  • Weight. Generally, most gaming earbuds don’t wear very much. I mean, we’re talking fractions of ounces. That being said, if you’re going to be wearing them a lot, then every ounce counts, in which case look for those that are as lightweight as possible.
