15 NEW Reasons to LOVE BTS (BangTan Sonyeondan) in 2020 (So Far)

If you're the type of person who is heavily involved in the film/video industry, or completely oblivious and erased from social media, BTS may typically stands for “Behind The Scenes” to you- but let me be clear. When we say “BTS” in this article, we are most definitely referring to the #1 KPOP group in the WORLD - BangTan Sonyeondan (방탄소년단). This entertainment group of 7 korean males has taken the world by storm and the hearts of young and old alike through their fascinating and heartfelt singing and dancing. If you don’t know who BTS is (are?), you clearly live under a rock, but fret not! This article is the perfect solution to help you stay informed. If you already know who BTS is but you’re not a fan yet, you also came to the right place. Here are 15 NEW reasons to absolutely LOVE and ADORE BTS.

#1. Their newest album, Map Of The Soul: 7, is absolute perfection.

The album debuted featuring 2 main singles: “Black Swan” and “ON” - both of which made their own footprints in BTS history. Black Swan is a masterpiece of dark, raw, and honest feelings mixed with a very interesting trap beat. ON is a strong, bold, and just as honest testament to how far BTS has come, with a very catchy drum rhythm. These 2 songs aren’t the only songs worth listening to! If you’re interested in an album full of catchy beats and sincere energy, it’s highly recommended that you listen to the entire thing.

Released on February 21, 2020, this album debuted at #1 on the chart, making it BTS’s 4th consecutive chart topping album. This album broke the genius world record for most albums sold in Korea (4.1 million in under 9 days), beating their own previous record for Map Of The Soul: Persona (3.2 million copies in 1 month).

#2. Speaking of Black Swan, their LIVE debut performance of Black Swan on “The Late Late Show with James Corden” was MESMERIZING.

BTS is known for a lot of things, and performing is definitely one of them. Their stage presence during their normal hip-hop inspired choreography is already top notch. Throw them in all black suave outfits, with their shoes off to highlight the different contemporary style choreo for Black Swan, and they still knock your shoes off!!

#3. Also on “The Late Late Show with James Cordden”, how can you NOT love how adorable they were playing “hide-and-seek” with Ashton Kutcher?!?

If you haven’t seen the video, PLEASE GO WATCH IT. BTS is normally seen in very serious demeanor when they perform, but in this clip, you get a glimpse of what BTS’s personalities are actually like behind the scenes - adorably innocent and soft! The highlights of the video are definitely discovering the ever clever Jungkook (the youngest aka golden maknae of BTS), and Jin (the oldest of BTS) whose reaction when found is now a fan favorite clip of him.

#4. BTS was the first Korean act to perform at the Grammys.

Ok, so, their first performance at the Grammys was in 2019, but that doesn’t mean that their 2020 performance shouldn’t get any credit either! Performing “Seoul Town Road” with Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus, the performance, while short lived, still rocked the nation. Not to mention their outfits at the Grammys?!?!?!! From the red carpet to their stage costumes, their stylist seriously needs a raise, because the boys ROCKED it.

#5. Speaking of fashion - BTS’s fashion just keeps getting better and better.

When they first debuted, they could barely afford their in house outfits, and oftentimes some members were seen wearing whatever was convenient - which seemed to be mostly random T-shirts and gym shorts they brought from home. However, as time went on and their fame steadily grew, so did their fashion sense (and budget!). Nowadays, the members are seen rocking up and coming high end brands, accentuated by luxury accessories and brand-name shoes, to say the least!

Above is an example of Jimin’s, the 3rd youngest and 2nd best dancer of BTS, fashion glow-up!

Below is an example of V’s, the 2nd youngest and known for his deep sultry voice, fashion evolution!

#6. I mean, just look at these pictures.

Ok so we know we didn’t include every member in the fashion glow up above, so here’s the rest of the members!! BUT LET ME BE CLEAR - ALL MEMBERS OF BTS ARE SNATCHING ALL THE WIGS. They all look just. Super. Hot. Fire.

Don’t look at anything else. Just let these pictures speak for themselves.

Below: RM - the leader and main rapper of BTS.

#7. The entire “BTS 'ON' Kinetic Manifesto Film : Come Prima” video

Jimin’s delicious body roll, Suga’s amazing improvement in his dance skills, RM & V’s entire mind-boggling visuals, the amazing dance break in that video...  Need I say more? If you haven’t already watched this beautiful masterpiece of a video, featuring the Blue Devils marching band and dance team The Lab, both of whom are based right here in California, please do yourself a SERVICE and GO WATCH IT RIGHT NOW!

#8. The first BangBangCon - a testament to how far they’ve come, and how much they deserve the world.

BangBangCon (the first one) was a free live viewing of BTS’s performances starting from their “Most Beautiful Moment In Life” On Stage era (2015) to BTS’s “Love Yourself” World Tour era performances (2018), and included their 3rd and 4th muster shows as well. For those of you new to the ARMY fandom (the name of BTS’s fans), musters are a series of performances and skits BTS puts on for their fans back home in Korea that showcase songs they don’t normally get to perform, as well as skits that were created with the sole purpose of pleasing their fans. A lot of the shows during the first BangBangCon are shows that are no longer steadily available for viewing, so fans were lucky to be able to see their performances - for FREE nonetheless!

#9. BangBangCon: The Live - a fantastical virtual concert that broke records worldwide

Not to be confused with BangBangCon (the first), BangBangCon: The Live is a PAID online concert that fans had to buy tickets to tune in for! While they may have had to cancel their world tour, this virtual concert allowed ARMYs to see BTS perform some of their newest songs from their newest album - Map Of The Soul:7, as well as re-live performances fans thought they would never get to see again. (Just One Day fans RISE UP.) The best part is that the concert was performed live and NOT pre-recorded! It’s as close to a real performance as we’ll get in quarantine from BTS.

The concert broke records for holding the highest viewed paid virtual concert EVER, as well as having made the most money on a virtual concert in the world. As many as 756,000 fans bought tickets, and it’s estimated that at least twice as many tuned in for the live concert, if not more. Never underestimate ARMY’s love for BTS!

#10. Jungkook singing “Never Not” by Lauv - a masterpiece.
On May 2nd, 2020 - Jungkook, the youngest and lead vocalist of BTS, released a video on Twitter showcasing an acapella version of “Never Not” by Lauv (a long time friend and fan of BTS) and it shook ARMYs from all over. A true testament to how much Jungkook’s english has improved, as well as how beautiful his voice is, the tweet ended up with 1.3+ million retweets, and 2.8+ million likes, according to Twitter.

#11. BTS donated $1 Million to Black Lives Matters, which was matched by John Cena (a big fan) and ARMYs alike! (A total of 3 Million in the name of BTS!)

Haters will say that BTS donated just to hop on the trend, but they actually donated before it became a popular way to gain social media clout - it just took a few weeks for the payment to get processed, as it is a large amount of money! After BTS reported that they were able to donate $1 Million, ARMYs organized themselves and were able to match that amount in just 24 hours after the announcement was released. Kpop fans are really out here changing lives for the better!

It may come as a surprise that John Cena, a renowned wrestler, is a fan of a Korean boy group, but it’s straight facts.

#12. They also donated another $1 Million to their concert crews who were out of work due to covid-19, and have BEEN donating to causes since way before 2020!

When Miss Rona hit in 2020, many of BTS’s crew who were hired to help with their world tour became laid off as BTS had to cancel their world tour due to health concerns (and rightly so!). BTS themselves felt like they wanted to do something to help their fellow staff members who work so hard to allow the 7 of them shine in the spotlight, so they decided to contribute to the cause through this charitable monetary gift. In 2019 as well, when the Yemen crisis hit, BTS also donated another $2 Million in support of that unfortunate event as well. It’s clear that BTS’s heart is as big as the number of fans they have! (Trust me, it’s quite the hefty number).

#13. Agust D: D-2 - the record breaking comeback fans have been waiting for 4 years for.

Agust D, the alter ego of Suga from BTS, released his first mixtape in 2016. Fans of SUGA were perhaps surprised from the demeanor from which the songs came off, as he was able to more freely express the tougher edges to himself in this mixtape. However, the mixtape still took off and did very well for a solo korean act, especially one that was entirely written and composed by the artist himself.

On May 22, 2020 - he finally released his sequel “D-2”, featuring the hit lead single “Daechwita” - which debuted at #1 On Billboard Rap Ddigital Song Sales Chart - maxing Agust D the first Korean Act to do so. Written and composed again, entirely by the artist himself, the album itself set 3 new records in terms of rank for albums in America. All this to showcase, once again, how talented Suga from BTS truly is.

#14. Enough statistics - let’s talk about BTS & their undying love for their fans.

Cliche? Maybe, but it’s made apparent over and over in their thoughts, speeches, and actions. Since the beginning, BTS has always made it a point to truly appreciate and care for their fans. While they may not have always come off as completely honest and transparent (when they debuted, they had different personas that they were assigned to come off as), BTS has worked hard to truly emulate and accept themselves and showcase this to their fans. With the Top Social Award for 3 consecutive years now, ARMYs get new content almost once every other day, and are considered a well-fed fandom when compared to other groups/bands of the same caliber with far less content to be consumed. In fact, the hashtag #BTSARMY was trending and was given an emoji on Twitter for all of June!

#15. But when it comes down to it, the best reason to stan BTS is because of who they are: 7 loving, adorable korean boys with their hearts set on spreading the message of love around the world.

Ever since their LOVE YOURSELF partnership with UNICEF on November 1st, 2017 and their heartfelt & reputable speech about accepting yourself at the United Nations on September 24th, 2018, the group of 7 korean men made their extremely wholesome message loud & clear. Love Yourself, Speak Yourself, Face Yourself, and above all else, be true to yourself. We’d like to believe that the biggest reason BTS has so many fans, and why you should jump on to the bandwagon as well, is because of their strengthening message of love & health. Now in 2020, BTS’s platform to speak out may be smaller than normal, but their level of leadership and setting the example for other groups/celebrities/people has not slowed down.

Basically, if BTS’s beautiful visuals, magnificent talents, and adorable personalities don’t convince you, it is our hope that, at the very least, you can understand that what they believe in and represent is worth stanning. Thanks for reading this article, and we hope that you were able to gain some knowledge about some NEW reasons to LOVE BTS! (:
